Review - Shoggoth Rising for Cthulhu Mythos from Fenris Games

Description

Shoggoth Rising is a multi-piece resin / metal miniature, to be used as a Shoggoth for Cthulhu Mythos games.

Package

I think I've received my copy in a self-sealing bag.

Scale & Size

The model has a diameter of 42mm and it's 18mm high. As it is an amorphous monster, the scale is not apparent. I think it could be used for any kind of scales to represent a monster.

Proportions

The proportions look realistic. I assume heroic scale tentacles were a lot wider.

Details

The details are mostly hard. It looks like it will be easy to paint.

Material

The main body is made of light green resin. The tentacles are made of white metal.

Priming

The miniature is made of resin so primer is not necessary for the main part. The tentacles are made of metal, and those require primer. If you'd like to include the metal tentacles, I'd recommend you to prime the whole model.

Paintjob

The miniature is unpainted.

Assembly

If you don't want to include the tentacles, no assembly is needed. If you want to add them to the model, you will need to glue them to the main mass.

Accessories

You can consider the included tentacles as accessories. You don't have to add them to the model, I think it's perfectly fine even without the tentacles.

Posing

The only part of the miniature that is posable, are the tentacles. They are made of metal, so you can bend them sligthly.

Base

The bottom of the model is flat. It doesn't require additional basing.

Sculpting

?

Sculptor

The sculptor is Iain Colwell.

Pose

The pose is somewhat static.

Changing the pose into a more dynamic one would probably require the addition of more tentacles.

The balance of the miniature is good, it's stands perfectly on the table.
