Review - Neozylthy for Nebulosa from CIP Games
For the Alkony game I'm constantly on a lookout for strange creatures, and this one really looked like it could be used both in miniature games and in space battles.
Description
It’s a one-piece Polylactic Acid Biopolymer (PLA) filament miniature. There is an embedded magnet in its bottom to attach the miniature to a flying base.
It's going to be part of the Nebulosa board game after its release. At the moment you can probably order it directly from its maker, CIP Games.

Scale & Size
I'm unsure of the scale of the miniature. Due to its alien nature there's no clear indication, so you can use it as a small fighter or a big carrier if you'd like to.
The Neozylthy is 37mm long, 15mm high and it has a 37mm wingspan.
Proportions
The proportions - compared to the game artwork - are realistic.
Details
The details are soft, everything is curved. The small ribs and irregularities are due to the production method (3D printing). I actually welcome this, as it gives a unique look to every miniature, and as it's supposed to be a living creature, it's fitting.
I've held two copies in my hand and I feel they were different, like one of them had been printed in higher resolution, although I'm not totally sure.
Material
It's made of Polylactic Acid Biopolymer (PLA) filament. The ones I have seen were yellow or orange, but I suppose it could be printed in several colours.
I didn't try to modify it yet, so I'm not sure how would it handle cutting or bending.
Priming
I used normal acrylic primer (Pentart Acrylic White Primer). If you'd like to get rid of the ribbed cover of the mini, liquid resin, filler or probably primer gesso could be helpful. If you don't have any of these, maybe acrylic glue/varnish, perhaps smearing some epoxy putty could work.
Paintjob
The miniature is unpainted, but I think it could be printed in several colours.
Assembly
One-piece, no sprue attached, no assembly needed.
Accessories
None.
Posing
Not easy, but possible. The fins could be cut to reposition or rearrange them, but then you'll have to carve them fit the body or use filler.
Base
The miniature comes with an embedded magnet in its bottom to attach the miniature to a flying base. I found this a good idea and a great addition, although it might be unnecessary if you'd just glue it on a base. (But then you can carve the magnet out, so you'll have a spare one.)
3D sculpting
The shape of the mini is nice. It's not a very detailed miniature, but as the nature of the manufacture causes irregularities during the process, I think it's a good choice.
3D sculptor
The miniature was designed by Lorenzo Cipriani. I like his work, and this model seems to fit into his Nebulosa range.
Pose
The pose is static but it's a spaceship, so it's ok. Although I can imagine somewhat more dynamic poses, changing the miniature would be a lot of work. The balance of the miniature looks good, but the tail is heavier.
Casting
In this case, it's "3D printing" instead of casting. The outcome has visible printer lines and there are irregularities on the miniature. In this particular case I think it's not a problem, I welcome it as a feature.
Painting
Painting it is quite straightforward, there are no tricky details.
Features
- Looks like a living organism
- Fins
- Large eyes / cockpits
Recommendation
I like the Neozylthy, it looks cool enough to be used in several scales and settings. I'd like to know the retail price though before I can recommend it.
