Review - Star Wars: Legion Core Set wargame base set from Fantasy Flight Games
System
Line of sight: Measured from the visual part of the miniature to any part of the target, including its base. This means those miniatures that stand at attention, or crouching with a periscope have an advantage over miniatures with flamboyant dresses or theatric poses (like almost all of the ones in the set).
Distance measuring: Any time.
Movement distance measuring: Only during the unit's activation. Since distance can be measured any time, I find this rule strange.
Movement tools and range ruler
Movement tools: 12mm wide, 6mm high. Small: 73mm long, Medium: 129mm long. Large: 180mm long
Range ruler segment: 173mm long, 11mm wide, 8mm high.
Miniatures
The base sizes in the game are 27mm, 50mm, 70mm and 100mm.
Infantry base: 27mm bottom, 25mm top sloping round plastic base, 5mm thick
Small vehicle base: 50mm round plastic base. The speeder uses this.
Medium vehicle base: 50mm round plastic base. The AT-RT Walker uses this.
Large vehicle base: 100mm round plastic base. Not included in the Core Set. The AT-ST and Airspeeder uses this.
Miniature size: The Stormtroopers (180cm high characters) are 40mm high from foot to eye level (so ca. 44mm to top of helmet). It means ca. 1/41 scale. However, Luke (175cm hight character) is 35mm high, suggesting 1/50 scale.
Size comparison
The models loom over a 1/56 scale miniature. In size, they are comparable to Primaris Space Marines for Warhammer 40,000. The Stormtrooper figures and Darth Vader could be a good fit for an 1/56 scale Space Marine.
