Review - First Strike game mat miniature scenery from Games Workshop
The First Strike gaming mat is a double sided poster that is folded to fit into an A5 size bag.
The folds already had some wear by the time I've opened the pack, and I suppose it will get worse with use, unless you seal it somehow, or paint over the damaged folds.
The surface is shiny, but I think it's unavoidable, unless you use matte spray to remove the shine.
The mat won't stay flat from itself. Probably it will help if you put weights on it, or use adhesive putty to stick it to your playing surface.
Both sides depict an industrial district of the Imperium. Side A) also has a visually out of place crater. Both sides deature roads that are 4 inches (10 cm) wide, plus a 2 inch (5 cm) walkway on both sides. It's enough space to be able to move your vehicles.
There are several manhole covers you can use for scenarios that allow the use of them. On Side B) there's also an entrance to an underground facility.
The containers included in the Warhammer 40.000 Ed8: First Strike Starter Set look out of place on both sides of the mat in my opinion, but at least you have the option to use that to add to your mat. The only place the container scenery looks "right" is right on the crater of Side A), or blocking the roads on either side. It's exactly as long as the roads are wide, so they could totally block it.

Possible uses
I've seen several of these mats put together, they fit nicely side by side. So there's the option of using several to build a large gaming area. However, one side only fits nicely with the same sides, so you can't mix the two sides easily.
The artwork is nice enough that I'd like to cut these mats apart and use the pieces to glue them on homemade scenery pieces. The Imperial iconography looks strange laying flat on the streets, but they would look great if they would adorn the sides of an Imperial building.
Possible improvements
Put the folds on the edges of printed terrain pieces. That way a damaged fold won't cut the art in half.
The crater on Side A) should be an additional piece you could put on the mat if you wish.

You can totally cover the outside of the First Strike Armoured Containers with tiles from The Eiras Contract tiles without overlapping. If you turn the container scenery upside down, you can fill the bottom with tiles. You can also cover the inside walls with the tiles, but there will be a small overlap.
