Review - Aliens: Another Glorious Day in the Corps game tiles for Aliens (GF9) from Gale Force Nine
There are 4 double-sided tiles in the Aliens: Another Glorious Day in the Corps set.
The tiles will probably stay flat if you store them properly.
The artwork is nice, showing places from the Aliens movie. Side A depicts the Hadley's Hope colony, while Side B depicts the Alien Hive in the Atmospheric Processor.
On the Hadley's Hope side, the place looks abandoned, with papers on the floor. There are also some signs of combat. On Board #2 and #3 the corridors are 2 grid wide (5 cm), while on Board #1 and #4 the corridors are 3 grid wide (7.5 cm). The scenery depicted looks like it was abandoned, but there is no battle damage, so it could be used for any kind futuristic living area.
On the Alien Hive side, the place looks like the Alien hive. There are people coccooned into the walls. There is biomechanical resin everywhere. There are also some Alien eggs. The corridors are 1 or 2 grid wide.
The design of the Aliens tiles is slightly modular. For the Hadley's Hope side, you can create a long and wide corridor by putting boards #1 and #4 beside each other. You can add multiple copies of #1 and #4 to create a series of long corridors. You can link Boards #2 and #3 in a similar manner to create short, more narrow corridors. You can join these shorter corridors to both #1 and #4. But that's the maximum amount of their modularity.
Possible uses
Beyond games of Aliens, you can use these for any grid-based tactical wargames or board games,
Or maybe even zone-based, like Deadzone. Deadzone is scaled for 7.5x7.5 cm zones, that would make 3x3 grids on the Aliens map one Deadzone zone. However, I'd recommend using 5x5 grids as one zone, as that will be easier to hande on the 10x10 boards. For Zombicide, I'd say that every room is one zone, and I'd use the corridors as two 5 grid long zones.
You can use extra tiles to create a futuristic colony that covers a large gaming table.
The artwork on the Hadley's Hope depicts an abandoned place - it's ideal for unoccupied places.
Possible improvements
Adding the APC as a separate cardboard sheet might have allowed more use of it. That way the missions could be more easier to customise.
If you really need that cardboard APC though, you can find one in the Aliens: Get Away From Her, You B***h! set.
