Review - William Cobb miniature figure from Court of Owls for the Batman Miniatures Game from Knight Models
Assembly level: 2: medium: removing flash and sprue channel remains from delicate parts, gluing pieces that won't stay together
Painting level: 2: medium: soft details - you need dexterity to be able pick the details
Nice sculpt. Needs assembly. The very small parts make it harder than usual to assemble, there is some modelling skill needed.
The pieces are very fragile, the weapons break easily due to their realistic proportions and dynamic poses. The similar tiny parts made it harder to match the pieces to the minis.
Clean-up: There was some flash and small sprue channel remains, but it's easy to find and remove. The flash is not very apparent on some minis, as they could easily be parts of the elaborate dresses. There are visible mold-lines on the minis. Some of these lines I've mistaken for sculpted details, but after a while it became clear it's just casting error. So if you see something that resembles a mold line and it cuts through the middle of the mini, it's probably just a mold line, and file it away.
- Sprue channel: Top of head (hard to remove).
- Flash: On daggers (easy to remove).
Pose: It seems to me that the legs are in an unnatural pose, like he is lifting something heavy. I don't know what's his intention with his daggers anyway, as they point backwards and up.
Balance: None of the minis in The Court of Owls set have any resemblence of balance. Even the standing models would fall without a base.
Accessories: There are two swords in scabbard I didn't attach to the mini. Maybe later, or I could use them for other miniatures.
Base: The The Court of Owls set comes with black plastic scenic bases. The base needs trimming, there is sprue remain on them. They have a slot at about the 1/3 line of the base. Although all of them have slottabase tabs, two of the minis didn't fit the slot, the other two fit, but not tightly, so you'll need to glue them or use blutac to attach them.
The 1/3 slot of the base do not really suit the two running minis (Strix and William Cobb), I'd rather base them on the center line.
Painting: I tried to paint the Court of Owls miniatures (Strix, Benjamin Orchard, Xiao Luung, William Cobb) as close to each other as possible, as they look similar, but their clothes are so different I had to give up on this.
Before you start painting William Cobb, take a good look at the marketing photo of the miniature, and come up with a paint scheme before you start. There are so many tiny bits, straps and pouches, coming up with good colours during painting is not easy.
