Unpainted Fubarnii Trader from World of Twilight company

The Fubarnii Trader from World of Twilight company is intended as an 1:64 (28mm) scale miniature, but as it's non-human (lizardman-like) it can be used for several scales. Anyaral, the World of Twilight is a setting I love and has a similar approach to fantasy as my own Alkony. When I got the chance to get some Twilight miniatures I was delighted.

Review - Fubarnii Trader miniature from World of Twilight

Description

It’s a one-piece white metal miniature. It’s tabbed, and the model came with a Citadel-style 30mm black round plastic slotta-base.

Scale & Size

The Fubarnii Trader is a 1:64 (28mm) miniature according to the company, but it could fit into 1:72 or 1:48 games too. In an 1:72 game it's human sized, in 1:48 games it would be a dwarf.

The trader is 20mm from the bottom of the to eye level and 22mm to the top of the head. The highest point (23mm) is the top of its staff. In 1:64 that makes it 1,4m high.

Proportions

The proportions look realistic, but it's hard to decide on an alien species. It looks pretty close to the production art.

Details

Most details are hard, easy to paint and drybrush. There are some soft details on the clothes.

Material

It's made of white metal.

Priming

The miniature is made of white metal so you'll need primer to paint it.

Paintjob

The miniature is unpainted.

Assembly

One-piece, no assembly needed.

Accessories

None.

Posing

I think it would be hard work to repose the mini. The head could be swapped, and you might repose the legs if you cut them, but as both arms are fused with the body, I think it would be easier to find another mini if you want another pose. You'd need to cut the arms off, and you couldn't really use them even if you could do it so they would remain intact as one hand holds the staff, and the other is grabbing its belt.

Base

The miniature is tabbed for slottabase. The size of the tab is the usual for GW miniatures, and it fits the slot tightly.

Removing the base was easy with a clipper and a metal file.

Sculpting

The detail is very nice.

Sculptor

The sculptor is Mike Thorp.

Pose

The pose is somewhat static but as it's not intended to stand in a battlefield pose, I find it okay.

The balance of the miniature is good, after removing the tabs it stands on its feet even without a base.

Casting

I could not find any mould lines, and there was no flash.

Painting

The model is easy to paint. The only thing that needs attention is the recess where the staff touches the right leg - washes or varnish could collect there, so watch that part as it dries.

Painting the mini was quite straighforward, so I couldn't come up with any tricks. However, first spend some time exploring the detail on the miniature or looking it up on photos first. There's a lot of detail on the mini and I had to understand them before I could start to come up with a paint scheme.

Features

  • Lizardman-like features
  • Orb-topped staff in right hand
  • Rings on left hand
  • Backpack

Recommendation

The Fubarnii Trader miniature from World of Twilight is really nice, but quite expensive. However, you won't really find minis like this anywhere else, so if you want to get a character that’s exactly like the Fubarnii Trader, it could be a good buy.
