Playing Deadzone Ed2 on Games Day Budapest 2016 - Imperial Space Gameplay narrative
Article updated: 2016.12.29
On the Games Day Budapest 2016 I was invited by Nagy Péter (Petrow) to play a game of Deadzone Ed2 with him. Even though we have played a Deadzone game, to continue the story that started in the previous Afterlife gameplay narrative, I will include elements of the Forlorn Stars (Imperial Space) setting. I try to recount the events that occured on that day.
The Vesuv's Forge Insurrection
Miner insurgence occured on Vesuv's Forge, when the workers demanded higher wages, and started demonstrations before the annual Hammer Games festival. Their company, the St. Eris World Workshop couldn't let this go on, so they retalieted quickly. They sent their REX 1 security enforcers, who forced the miners into hiding. However, after the Hammer Games started, they received a cache of weapons from rebel smugglers. They used this opportunity to take one of the refineries and fortify it against intruders. This, of couse, is a criminal offense, so the St. Eris administration called for the assistance of Imperial Marines that arrived for the festival.
The marines of the Tiger Shark division from the St. Peter the Great frigate arrived to investigate. They demanded that the insurgents surrender their weapons. They wouldn't. This is what happened after that.

The Tiger Shark marines of the St. Peter approached the refinery, lead here by loyal workers of the company. After getting close to their target area, the civilians quickly parted ways to get clear of the incoming battle.
The marines formed two groups to flank the insurgents. Thorgrim and Bora found the left flank with the robot hound. Sergeant Bakku and tech-marine Yakubsen formed the right flank.
Tech-marine Yakubsen scanned the area for enemies.
The scanner revealed several heavily armed combatants behind the barricades. When the insurgent miners realised they were found, they started to run toward the marines to scare them away.
The marines stormed the area. One of the marines, Thorgrim climbed the building for a higher view of the area, while Bora moved to the left with the robot hound.
The right flank group of marines, lead by Sergeant Bakku, pushed forward to meet the insurgents.
The miners didn't want to go down without resistence, so they opened fire on the marines.
The robot hound ran behind the barricade to get a good position to open fire on the miners. It was blown by one of the heavy weapon toting miners the next minute. (Deadzone Ed2: The barricade is an objective, so the miners had to clear it, otherwise the Enforcer player would receive Victory points.)
Things escaleted quickly from there. One of the miners threw an explosive device in the midst of the marines. Although they survived, they scattered. The miners assaulted to use their mining equipment as weapons.
Thorgrim, standing on the roof took shots on the running miners, until he got wounded. He spent a minute in cover to catch his breath, while administering a medikit to his wounds. (Deadzone Ed2: The Enforcer found a medikit on the roof, and used it to remove the wound.)
Bora got to the wreckage of the robot hound at the barricade, but she got assaulted by a frenzied miner. She survived the shots, but fell in the close combat that followed. (Deadzone Ed2: The objectives are important locations, whoever holds them, receives Victory points.)
The assaulter carried a heater, that was modified to work as a flamethrower, and from the cover of the barricade lighted two of the marines, Sergeant Bakku and tech-marine Yakubsen on fire. Luckily both of them survived and put out the flames quickly. Yakubsen however fell after another volley of small arms fire.
After recovery, Thorgrim crawled to the edge of the building, and took down the miner who assaulted Bora, taking revenge for her.
The leader of the insurgents got assaulted by Sergeant Bakku, the leader of the marines. The boss retreated, firing continuosly on the marine. In the end, the miner had to climb the tower to escape. The exhausted sergeant got shot in the back by one of the hiding insurgents. Soon the insurgent boss also fell, as he got into the view of Thorgrim, on the top of the building.
This loss was decisive, the miners fled from the facility, dropping their weapons, and cursing the day they got into this uprising. (Deadzone Ed2: The Enforcers reached the Victory condition at 12 Victory points. Killing the enemy bosses gets the player multiple Victory points.)
