This is my review of Breach, a futuristic survival thriller movie from 2020. It's about the crew of a spaceship trying to survive an alien intruder. The Breach film is boring, I only recommend it to hardcore fans of the genre.
If you'd like to be totally surprised by the Breach film, I don't recommend you to watch the trailer beyond 0:45, because it provides a summary of the film, up to the ending scene. However, if you know the premise, I don't think it would be that much of a problem to see these.

Review (spoiler-free) - Breach, movie (2020)
I'm not sure if I've heard about this movie, or I just randomly ran into it, but seeing Bruce Willis and Thomas Jane as the stars of the movie, I thought I'd give it a try without watching the trailer.
The Breach movie is about the crew of a spaceship trying to survive an alien intruder.
The story is weak, and not very interesting. The pacing is consistently slow. There are no character arcs. There are logical problems.
The cinematography is watchable. The scenes are not interesting visually. The sets look bad. The special effects are not convincing.
We don't really get to know the characters, most of them are just there to fill space or act as casualty. The actors are okay.
The music (by Scott Glasgow) is okay.
Breach is a boring futuristic survival thriller, I don't think even fans of the genre would enjoy it.
My experience
I was not satisfied with Breach (2020). I prefer stories with well-thought, logical plots, and Breach couldn't deliver that.
Rating: Average (2 out of 3 points). Breach is a watchable film, with a weak plot.
Enjoyment: Weak (2- out of 3 points). Breach is boring and illogical.
Rewatchability: Low. I don't think anyone would be interested in watching Breach more than once.
Chance of watching it again: No.
Chance of watching a sequel: Average. I'd probably watch it, hoping that the creators improved.

Will you enjoy this?
If you like futuristic thriller movies, you might like Breach.
If you like horror or action thriller movies (Alien, Life, The Thing), you might like the film, although there are not many action scenes or scary scenes in the Breach movie.
If you don't mind illogical elements in your movies, you can enjoy this.
If you prefer visuals over story, you should definitely avoid Breach.
If you hate zombie movies, you might consider skipping this movie, as parts of the story look like zombie movies.
Watching for plot points
If you are interested in futuristic action stories, it might be worth watching the Breach movie for the plot points, but reading the plot summary is probably enough.
Should you watch this on your own screen at home, or is it worth going to the cinema?
The visuals probably look better if you watch it on a small screen.

Review with spoilers - Breach, movie (2020)
I didn't like the Breach movie.
Cover
The cover of the movie is okay, it doesn't reflect anything from the movie, but at least it doesn't spoil the story.
The trailer
The trailer is basically a substitute for watching the movie.
If you prefer spoilers, it's a great trailer for the Breach film. If you prefer to avoid spoilers, it will make the movie less fun for you.
Promise of the first scene
There's a pair who try to reach a spaceship, leaving Earth. Then the scene suddenly ends, without us knowing whether they've achieved this or not. I assume the editing will be similarly bad in the rest of the movie. I also assume that they've probably reached the spaceship, and the story will be about their trip to the planet, or they arrive on the planet, and something will happen there.
Execution: They've really reached the ship, and this story was really about their trip, and the movie ends with the possibility of watching what exciting adventures will happen after they've arrived. So, I can say that I'm mostly satisfied with the fulfilment of the promise.
Plot summary / Synopsis
Earth is getting uninhabitable, so they've built a a colony on another planet (New Earth). The last spaceship (Ark) launches, bringing 300,000 people on board.
A soldier (Corey Large as Lincoln) helps to bring a stowaway guy (Cody Kearsley as Noah), and his pregnant girlfriend on the ship, who is the daughter of the military leader (Thomas Jane as Admiral Kiernan Adams). The passengers get frozen in cryopods.
The stowaway guy starts working in the cleaning crew, under the janitor (Bruce Willis as Clay Young).
A crewmember is infected by a creature, who dies, but infects another crewmember. He kills other crewmembers, before he is shot down. The doctor (Rachel Nichols as Chambers) finds out during autopsy, that the shot down crewmember was controlled by a parasite inside of him. The killed crewmembers come back to life, and attack. The janitor arms the crew members from the armoury, and they lock themselves in a room. One of the survivor confesses that it was him who brought the creature on board, as he believes that humanity shouldn't spread to other planets.
The soldier tries to flee in an escape pod, but an infected is also there, probably killing him.
The janitor sends the stowaway guy to the military leader through the ducts. The military leader prepares the security team against the infected. They sacrifice themselves, but destroy all of the infected. However, the body parts of the infected reconnect, creating a giant creature.
During the fight, they realise that cleaning fluid hurts the creature.
The infected manipulate the reactor of the ship to overheat, as they speed up to crash into the planet. The crew realises that the explosion could wipe out the remaining members of humanity living on the planet.
They fight the giant creature. The doctor is killed, but the stowaway guy and his girlfriend is able to get into an escape pod. The janitor sets the ship to self destruct, and it explodes.
As the escape pod arrives on the planet, they see that the infected are already there, and the local military is fighting a giant creature.
The setting
Breach is set in the future of Earth, 2242. It is either a fantasy universe, where aliens exist, or a futuristic universe, where scientists are able to create genetically designed creatures.
Earth is struck by some catastrophe, making it uninhabitable to humans. There are still 19 billion people living on Earth when the last spaceship leaves.
They've built a colony on another planet, New Earth, where 50 million inhabitants live.

The creature
The origin of the creature is unclear, but it's probably alien. Although it might have been created by human scientists. It wants to kill everybody.
It can infect people. The infected reanimate even after being killed.
It started as a worm-like thing that slipped into the drink of its victim. The first victim burst, as the creature grew inside. It's eating the insides of the victim.
If they are dismembered, the parts can reattach themselves. They can also form a larger creature.
The creature has a weakness to cleaning fluid, it dissolved the infected humans.
The message of the story
I'm not sure there's one.
The structure of the story
The scenes of the Breach film are played in sequence, following the same storyline.
There's no single viewpoint character.
It has the usual arc of the dramatic structure - introduction, action, resolution. It ends in a soft cliffhanger.

Things I liked
- I liked the look of the creature.
* * *
How does it compare to the other works of the creators?
From the works of the writers (Corey Large & Edward Drake), I haven't seen anything. (Update: Since then, I've seen Cosmic Sin (2021), that was similarly bad, and Apex (2021) that was the worst of the three.)
I haven't seen anything from the director (John Suits).

Analysis of the story - Breach, movie (2020)
I didn't like the story, the boring dramatic structure and the logical faults prevented me from enjoying Breach.
Problematic elements
There were plenty of problems, too numerous to list.
Unanswered questions
- What happened to Lincoln? Did he survive? Did he reach some planet?

Possibilities of improvement
How it could have been better?

Behind the scenes
Thoughts about the reviews of others
Some reviewers pointed it out that the Admiral shouldn't wear sunglasses in low lit corridors. However, a real man, like Thomas Jane, is able to wear sunglasses even in the middle of the night.

Scenario ideas - Wargame scenario ideas
Breaching the base: There's a base, that's being attacked. The personnel working there have to reach the security to get reinforcements. The defender sets up the base, with a closed quarter for the personnel, and another closed barrack for the security guards, and an objective room in the middle. Deploy the half of the personnel in their quarters, and the other half is deployed randomly on the playing area. The personnel don't have armour, and they only have light close combat weapons. The security guards are placed in the barracks, and they have armour and any kind of weapons. The attackers choose a wall section they have breached, and place the attacking models anywhere outside of the base. The attackers want to destroy the contents of the objective room - if they force the door open, an attacker model can destroy everything with one action. The attackers disabled the alarms, so one of the personnel models have to reach the barracks. If a model opens the door of the barracks, from then on, the defender can act with the security guards. The defender wins if they defeat the attackers, with more than half of their units alive. The attacker wins if they destroy the contents of the objective room, and more than half of their units leave the playing area.
Secret entry (easier for the attacker): The attacker has a tunnel leading into the base. Before the game begins, randomly determine a place inside the base. That is where the attackers start.
Tough objective (easier for the defender): It takes more than one action for the attacker to destroy the objective. One model can cause 1 damage while inside the room. If they accumulate X damage, the objective gets destroyed. If a personnel gets inside the room, they can repair 1 damage with one action.
Traitor guards (easier for the attacker): Some of the security guards are actually traitors. When they get activated by the opening of the door,, roll a d6 for every security model. On a 6, they are exchanged to a traitor guard model, controlled by the attacker.
Movie accurate battle: The attackers start in a secret entry, but there's a tough objective, taking multiple turns to destroy. The attackers are intelligent zombies that can infect their victims. There's also a self destruct option for the defenders, as destroying the zombies is more important than the base.
Miniatures - 1/50-1/60 (28-32mm scale)

Zombies: Human-sized (S3) modern / futuristic (advanced) human female / male sick civilian in protective suit.
The creature: Large (S4) quadruped carnivore creature.
